Axis carries both clocks — ET on top, UTC beneath. That is the fix: news_returns.news_t and bars.1Min are both stored in UTC, so regular hours are 13:30–20:00z, not 09:30–16:00. Slicing on the wrong clock returned 27% of the session and looked like missing data.

Ladder = 1m · 5m · 15m · 30m · 60m · EOD. A tall first bar means the move was instant and already priced; a rising ladder means it drifted.
